Responsibility

"In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility."

Roosevelt , Eleanor . "Responsibility Quotes - BrainyQuote." Famous Quotes at BrainyQuote. N.p., n.d.  Web. 1 Mar. 2013.

Responsibility is being in control, being accountable and reliable. It is being able to admit something and be responsible for an action or event. It is being able to be in control and able to manage. Responsibility is something that can shape your everyday life.

There is a way that is attribute has been shown in the Hunger Games and Catching Fire through the main character Katniss as well as some others too. She shows responsibility by going into the Hunger Games for her sister. She feels a sense of need to do this because Prim is her sister and she needs to protect her. As well Kaitness and Peeta feel a responsibility to win the hunger games for their district and make them proud. Peeta and Kaitness on their victory tour they may feel a responsibility to represent their district. Overall there are main ways that responsibility is shown in The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanna Collins, and these are just a few.

Courage

"My allotted time for speaking has come and gone, but I must say something. I owe to much. And even if I had pledged all my winnings to the families, it would not excuse my silence today. 'Wait, please.' I dont know how to start, but once I do, the words rush from my lips as if they've been forming in the back of my mind for a long time" (Collins 60).

Courage is a quality or power of a person(s) being that allows them to face difficulty, danger or fear.

Courage is being used by the main character Kaitness who is the winner of the Hunger Games. Through both books she has shown a considerable amount of courage and this quote says no different. As she travels from districe to district she is told what to say. Coming into rue's district someone she was allied with in the Hunger Games this is different. She feels like she must put her foot forward and say what she needs to say and not what she is being told to say. So Kaitness needs courage to do so. In the first book as well she took her sisters spot to join the Hunger Games this as well too courage from Kaitness. She is a women who know what she has to do and does it whether it is the right or wrong thing to do. In the defintion above it says the person(s) courage allows them to face difficulty, danger or fear. Kaitness is facing all three. Difficulity to speak up and say and do what she means and danger or fear because she knows if she does not do as she is told she will be punished or something/someone will cbe close to her. Kaitness is a great character who carries courage with her everywhere she goes.

Elements of a Novel

Trap or Obstacle (1)  Crises/ Turning Point (2)  Setting (3)  Conflict (4)  Immediacy (5)

Trap or Obstacle

The element that is often used in the Hunger Games and Catching Fire is trap or obstacle. As you read these books you will encounter a major obstacle that the main character Kaitness and others have to be apart of, and these are the Hunger Games. This is a life or death obstacle that was the main plot around the Hunger Games. Entering the arena knowing that you will have a 1 in 24 chance to live must be something hard to wrap your head around. Although Kaitness overcame that obstacle with Peeta as well. Was winning the Hunger Games a good thing though? Of course staying alive is great and getting to see your family again and showing them how much you appreciate them is a lovely thing but were they being put into a trap at the same time? In winning the Hunger Games, Kaitness and Peeta were put into a trap as many see. Since altering the games rules they have been put into a position were they have no choice about their life. They must be in love with each other for the rest of their life and do exactly as the capitol tells them. Not many people living today would like being told what to do everyday of your life, I know I wouldn't. As I continue to read this book I am excited to see what is to come.

"He means there's only one future, if I want to keep those I love alive and stay alive myself I'll have to marry peeta." ( Collins 44 ) This quote shows that there is only way for Kaitness to stay alive and that is to follow the demands of capitol. Her love for Peeta was only an act to help her win the Hunger Games but as she has done so she now she must obey by the rules.

Three Qualities

The three qualities that I think a good book would have are; description, a good setting and emotion. I think that if you are reading a book you shouldn't just being reading it word by word. You should feel like you are there interacting with the characters watching them in motion and if a book has good description you will feel this. As well a book should have a good setting, a good book should make you feel like you have been to the setting before or making you feel like you want to visit. Finally emotion, if the author is explaining how the character is feeling if they have wrote the book well you should also feel that emotion and feel like you are making a connection with the certain character.

I am currently reading Catching Fire book number two in a three book series written by Suzanne Collins. I am on chapter 5 and already all three qualities have been achieved. There is much description when reading this book. Collins uses a humans senses to her advantage when writing. " I twist the polished brass knob and step inside. My nose registers the conflicting scents of roses and blood" (Collins 17). This is a sentence showing how Collins uses human senses when writing. There is also a very good setting which is the arena where the Hunger Games take place. Finally good emotion makes a great book. Feeling the emotion when reading is a major thing. Whether the characer is happy or sad you should be able to feel what they are feeling and understand them as well. The Hunger Games does this very well by letting us in on how the victors and feeling going into and being in the Hunger Games. Overall Catching Fire is a great book that includes many things a good book should. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read. It involves romance drama action anything you can think of. I am excited to continue reading!

Free Choice; Hunger Games

I have started reading the trilogy of  The Hunger Games. This is a very great series and I am excited to read more. I have completed the first book and am now onto the second Catching Fire. This is the continuation of the series and is a great part of the story. In the first book The Hunger Games, Katiness and Peeta go into the hunger games and compete to win the prize. Which is surviving and coming out alive from the hunger games. Katiness and Peeta go through extremes to reach this goal, they have to murder people and tell lie after lie after lie which is against what they believe in at home. The Hunger Games end with Kaitness and Peeta winning the final prize. Catching Fire, Kaitness and Peeta have now returned back to District 12 and are on the tour of traveling the Districts. To give everyone thanks for their support. Also to say sorry to the ones they have lost in the games. The Capitol has now taken over full power and is telling Kaitness and Peeta what to do and say in front of the districts. I have connected so much with this book and I feel like I know the characters. At one point in Catching Fire I actually put the book down and stopped reading. I feel like the Capitol uses its power to the extreme and doesn't know where to stop. I feel like putting down the book gave me reassurance that I know what is happening in the book and understand what the characters are feeling. I feel like Kaitness and Peeta need to have a say in what the 'say'. I am only now on page 60 and have started to read again, and I am very excited for what is to come.

Hero; Hunger Games

I have now started to read the trilogy called the Hunger Games. I am not very interested in reading as it is, but somehow this book has caught my attention. I feel like when I read it I am being put into the story and becoming a character in the book itself.
I feel from reading the book that Katiness is the hero of The Hunger Games. She is a very innocent girl, as she comes from a small town called Distract 12 and has one true friend named Gale where she hunts with him and lives with her family like any girl would. She has a very caring sister and mother also that will do anything for her no matter what.Yet with the annual meeting of District 12 her sister is called to play in the Hunger Games. Her sister takes it like any other would but Kaitness being the brave soul she is trades places with her sister Prim to save her life. Now usually this isn't allowed but since Kaitness incited, Kaitness will now play in the Hunger Games. She must now fight and learn to grow as a person and as a warrior. She must learn to survive against the odds of the game and show everyone what she can do. Overall Katiness is a great representative of a hero. She has shown strength in almost everything is has done in the book thus far. Katiness is a hero. I have added a picture of the actress who will be playing Kaitness in the movie above.

Archetypes; Anne Frank

I chose Anne Frank to pick for a character archetype. I chose Anne Frank to be the Shape shifter in the novel I am reading. A shape shifter is someone who plays a significant role in the personality of the book and at times is harder to understand. In many ways Anne is like this she is very alone now that she has endure separation. Although enduring separation is a characteristic of a hero I feel as though that anyone in the novel can do this. She doesn't have any magical powers she isn't a wizard but she brings her beliefs into the story and how she feels about things. She may to many come across as the hero but in my eyes she isn't. I feel as though the couple that took them into the hiding are the real hero's. They helped them in a time of need. So yes she could also be a hear, but I feel like she is more of a shape shifter then anything. She is in a very dark place so is gloomy most of the time. She doesn't have much to do or much to say but when she does she makes a statement.
I also added the photo above because I feel like if one person can make a difference they are either taking the role of the hero or shape shifter. In this case it is the shape shifter and she is making a difference of how she is acting and what she is doing. She is just a girl trying to survive and she has nothing else to do other then to take a seat in the corner of a room, grab a paper and pencil and start writing.
